Blended traditions are evident in the way characters live their daily lives. In stories such as “Mrs. Sen’s” and “This Blessed House,” the characters try to hold on to Indian traditions (food, language, family values), but at the same time have to adapt to the American environment. Cultural negotiation is a major conflict in many stories. Lahiri’s characters often experience culture shock, isolation, and crises of identity. They must repeatedly choose between holding on to their original culture or adapting to a new one.
Mapping Global Narratives in Interpreter of Maladies,Global mapping also connects tradition and modernity. “Mrs. Sen’s” brings together the traditional Indian way of life with modern, individualistic American life. “A Real Durwan” shows how modernization in Calcutta collides with old values. The Das family in “Interpreter of Maladies” is the personification of global connections: they are ethnically Indian, but dress and act very American.Interpreter of Maladies is an emotional atlas that shows how life in America remains connected to culture and history in India. Lahiri maps that while cultural details differ, the map of the human heart with its longings, rifts, and attempts to connect is essentially the same across the globe.
Thus, our analysis of the video titled “Short Story Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri in 1999.” This story highlights the process of Diaspora, Migration, and Cultural Hybridity/Global Mapping values that are dynamic and well represented.
